About Safeinest
What Safeinest is — and how we care for your kids.
Safeinest is a UK family-safety app for Android and iPhone. It helps a parent set gentle, sensible limits on a child's device — which apps they can use, and when — sends message safety alerts from an Android phone when something worrying arrives, and keeps the two of you able to reach each other by message, call or SOS while everything else is paused. We built it to be calm, private, and honest, because families deserve tools that respect both the parent and the child.
Why we built it
Family phones are wonderful and worrying in equal measure. Parents want a simple way to keep a child’s phone healthy — a bedtime that actually sticks, a way to pause games during homework, a pause on social media — without a computer-science degree or a subscription they can’t afford. Apple’s Screen Time can do a lot, but it’s buried in menus and hard to manage across two phones. Safeinest puts the important controls in one calm place, in plain English.
How we care for your kids
Caring for a child online isn’t about spying on them — it’s about setting healthy boundaries and keeping their data safe. That belief shapes everything we do:
- You set the rules, not your child. Rules are set from the parent app; the child’s phone applies them. A determined child can still switch Screen Time off or change which apps are covered on their own phone — iPhone allows that, and no app can stop it. What Safeinest does is notice and tell you: if Screen Time is switched off, if the covered list shrinks, if more apps are set to always-allowed, or if the phone goes quiet.
- We collect as little as possible. We store the child's age, not a date of birth. A nickname, not a legal name. We never hold your child's conversations — message safety, where a family turns it on, checks arriving messages on the child's own Android device and sends only a category and a few redacted words, never the message itself. Live location is off by default, you turn it on per child, and by default we keep only the latest position.
- The child is treated with respect. The Kids app is calm, not scary — it explains in plain words that apps are resting and will be back later, with no shaming. (The block screen itself is Apple’s own; iPhone does not let apps restyle it.)
- Safety, gently. Where safety alerts apply (live on Android today), you’ll only ever see a short, redacted preview — never a full conversation — alongside UK helplines you can share.
Honesty first
We will never over-promise. On iPhone, Apple sets firm limits that no app can get around, and we tell you plainly:
- No iPhone app can read your child’s messages. Anyone claiming to is misleading you. Message safety is live on Android, where their phone checks arriving messages itself — English words for now.
- No app can stop itself being deleted on iPhone. The real lock is a Screen Time passcode that you set. Safeinest shows the child a “please ask first” message and tells you honestly how to make it stick.
- Enforcement is cooperative. It works through Apple Screen Time, which a Screen Time passcode keeps switched on.
- Bedtime rings on our server's alarm, best-effort. At each edge of a bedtime or school window our server rings the child's device on its own clock, so windows normally start and finish within a minute or two — but that ring is a silent push which platforms can delay or drop, so the kids app also checks every 15 seconds while open, and we say that plainly rather than promise the dot.
- No app can show how long each app was used. Apple keeps those figures on the child’s device, so nobody can put “Games: 1h 40m” on your phone.
We’d rather earn your trust with the truth than lose it with a broken promise.
Private by design, made in the UK
Safeinest is built around UK GDPR and the ICO’s Children’s Code (the Age Appropriate Design Code). Data minimisation is the default, sensitive information is encrypted at rest, and we don’t sell data or build advertising profiles — ever. You can read the details in our Privacy Policy.
Where we’re going
All four apps are live today — the parent app and Safeinest Connect for children, on Google Play and on the App Store. Message safety — the reason Safeinest exists — is live on Android, checking arriving messages on the child's own phone and alerting you with a short redacted preview, built with the same honesty as everything else. Next we are teaching it more languages, and small family plans in your own currency are switching on soon. Your feedback shapes what we build — say hello any time at hello@safeinest.com.
